This depends on the amount of nectar available for the bees and how strong the colony is.
We have had Flow Supers fill in a week during peak times of the flowering season. A super usually fills well within a month during the spring and summer (at peak flowering times and production of nectar).
Most new beekeepers start their hive in spring, when flowers are blooming and bees are naturally building up their numbers. That gives the colony plenty of time to settle in and grow through the warmer months.
When it comes to honey, a brand new colony usually needs a little time to establish itself first. Many beginners are pleasantly surprised if they get a small harvest in their first season, but it’s also completely normal to wait until the following spring or summer.
Once your colony is strong and your Flow Super is on, things can move surprisingly quickly. During peak flowering season, some Flow Supers can fill in as little as a few weeks, and many fill during spring and summer.
One of the nice things about a Flow Hive is that there’s no rush. You can watch the end cells through the window, and when they’re full and capped, your honey is ready. The bees keep it safely sealed until you’re ready to harvest, so you can simply enjoy the process and wait for the right moment.
